I STILL LUV NY sticker (STK004)- 2.5" by 2.5" white vinyl - $1.00
Issued Sept. 30, 2018 - The Federal Highway Administration demanded that New York State take down over 500 signs along federally funded roads that promoted the State's attractions. The FHWA objected to the use of one word in italics on about 100 of the signs where the slogan 'THE NEW YORK EXPERIENCE" had the last word on a separate line and in italics. The FHWA determined drivers were too dumb to comprehend the italics and would create unsafe traffic conditions by slowing down to read. On those and the rest of the 500+ signs, the FHWA objected to the inclusion of the State Tourism Board website "ILUVNY.COM" on the basis that its use would prompt drivers to grab their cell phones while driving and cause accidents by the distraction. The FHWA fined NY State $14Million in 2017 and threatened more fines if they were not removed by 10/1/2018. Fortunately, a compromise was reached to extend the time for removal on the last day.
Our design, created by Wilbur Cochran and drawn by artist Stacey Law, shows a haughty Uncle Sam trampling on a downed I LUV NY sign. The Statue of Liberty is meanwhile applying her Torch to his backside and asking "FEEL THE "LUV". SAM?". The legend proudly proclaims "I STILL LUV NY EVEN IF THE FEDS DON'T!".
Printed in bold colors on waterproof white vinyl stock.
